Department of Education – Modernization
Zenius assisted the Department of Education (ED) in their modernization journey, starting by performing the upfront, strategic planning steps dating back to the Program’s inception in 2018. We then developed their roadmap of projects for modernization that aligned with the Department’s investment priorities:
- Alternatives and Cost-Benefit Analysis
- Business Process Re-Engineering (BPR) and Digital Transformation Analysis
- Acquisition Support Services
- Performance Reporting Systems
Our work on ED’s Grants Management Modernization itself is ongoing, where we are continuing to provide program direction, quality control and compliance, including risk management, reduction, and mitigation, and overall oversight of the integrator’s performance.
Our ability to design the overall modernization program roadmap and execute on various supporting projects, has given us not only insight into how to structure projects toward the overall modernization mission, but also valuable experiential skills through the execution of carrying them out.
Internal Revenue Service – Mainframe Modernization
Zenius began supporting the IRS in their Mainframe Modernization journey in 2016. This work has propelled the IRS onto a modern technology stack, moving them off mainframe technologies and onto Server-based services. This has helped the IRS fulfill their critical mission more efficiently and with much higher data quality.
Our work consists of offloading some of their mainframe computing processes, mainly developed in Assembler/Cobol and into Java and Active MQ (AMQ). Our strength lies in our people who are proficient in both legacy Mainframe and modern object-oriented technologies.
Department of Education – Acquisition Management
Zenius began supporting the pre-implementation phase of the Department of Education’s Grant Management Modernization initiative by providing Program Management and Acquisition Support Services. We produced the Request for Information (RFI) and Request for Quote (RFQ) packages and helped facilitate the acquisition of a Systems Integrator (SI) to implement a futuristic Education Grants Platform (EGP) and a modernized Grants Management System, called G5. Our work on G5 is ongoing, where we are continuing to provide program direction, quality control and compliance, including risk management, reduction, and mitigation, and overall oversight of the SI’s performance.
Our ability to design the overall modernization project roadmap and oversee and craft the RFI/RFP packages for acquiring the Systems Integrator to modernized G5, has given us not only insight into how to structure the overall Modernization mission, but also valuable skills through leading an acquisition procurement.
